Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety is on the increase globally and can have devastating effects on us.  Recent research shows that 10% of the population suffer from constant stress; the most stressed group are working women with school-age children.  Left untreated, stress and anxiety manifests itself in serious ways such as sleep problems, depression, panic attacks, sexual dysfunction, mood swings, relationship problems and physical illnesses.  

With the right approaches, stress and anxiety can be overcome and your life can be more harmonious and productive.

I use hypnotherapy to treat stress in two ways; by training the mind and body to relax effectively and by dealing with the situations that trigger the stress.

Anxiety is a fearful and apprehensive state which causes physical symptoms such as a churning stomach.  If left unresolved anxiety can lead to depression; it can also lead to phobias as a person starts to avoid the situations that cause the anxiety.

Fear

I treat many adults and children who suffer with phobias.  Many people with severe phobic reactions are afraid of using therapy to remove their fear as they believe that during the treatment they will be exposed to the thing they fear.  

 

Hypnotherapy uses the person's perceptions to create a place of safety from which internal messages about the fear can be changed.  There is no need for people to be exposed to the object of their fear during hypnotic treatment.

 Phobias can profoundly affect people's everyday lives.  They are often caused by avoiding something the person fears until the subconscious mind begins to produce an anxious 'fight or flight' response.  Sometimes thinking about the source of the fear or seeing pictures of it will also produce a stress response.

Hypnotherapy is a great way to treat even long standing and deep seated fears and phobias.  Call me now and start to free yourself from fear.

Weight loss

Perhaps you have followed diets and exercise plans over the years with some success, but the weight drifts back on when you stop?

 

Perhaps you are aware of your unhealthy eating habits but have not been able to break them?

 My Hypnotherapy Weight Loss treatment is completely personalised to you and involves working with you to identify the emotions involved in your eating patterns.  Appetite is controlled by the subconscious, so hypnotherapy is a great tool for addressing those unwanted eating habits!

 You may be consciously aware of the emotions that cause you to overeat, or we may use hypnotherapy to identify them.  Then we can use suggestion during trance to reframe these emotions, which will help you to change your behaviours and habits around food.

 Please note: for ethical reasons I will not carry out hypnotherapy for weight loss unless you have a body mass index of 26 or higher and I will assess this at your first session.

Smoking Cessation

We usually offer a smoking cessation treatment in a single session: one 90 minute appointment.

 

These sessions represent great value, as even if you are only smoking ten a day you will save the cost of the sessions in less than one month when you stop! (NHS Smokefree: Office for National Statistics 2011).

 Hypnotherapy is often a last resort for a smoker and like any other method, requires some effort and willpower, with success depending on the person’s desire to become a non-smoker.  That said, The 'New Scientist' says:

“Hypnosis is the most effective way of giving up smoking according to the largest ever scientific comparison of ways of breaking the habit”

I send out a questionnaire to get a detailed smoking history from you and then work with you as an individual to find out what motivates you to stop and also crucially what keeps you smoking.  I can then personalise your hypnosis treatment, which makes it much more effective.  I also include an mp3 recording for your ongoing use.

Confidence

Hypnotherapy can be a very quick effective treatment for confidence building and self esteem.

 

It is great for public speaking, exam nerves, interview confidence and social anxieties.  Many well known people use hypnotherapy to overcome their stage fright.

 Hypnotherapy can work with you to identify what caused your self esteem to be knocked in the first place.  Over a longer treatment time it can also address deep-seated self esteem issues, getting right to the original messages you received about you, your appearance and your capabilities.  Sometimes we believe things that others have told us about ourselves and continue to hold on to old beliefs about ourselves that hold us back and stop us from achieving our full potential.  Hypnotherapy can actually create new, positive self-beliefs.

In the past I have worked effectively both with clients who have generalised feelings of low self esteem and with people who simply had a specific forthcoming event which they were anxious about.
